A young boy received a special surprise ahead of his fifth birthday after being recruited by police to help find a missing "important document".

Anthony Green, who waves off the Police Scotland fleet in Glenrothes every Friday, reported to reception for his first "shift".

The youngster was called into action by Community Sergeant David McCabe, who told him he had lost an "important document" and feared he was going to get the sack from the force's chief constable.

The officer knew it was in one of seven vehicles he had used during the course of patrols and Anthony joined him for the search.

It turned out to be a personalised birthday card with images of all of Anthony's favourite police vehicles at Glenrothes, including the road policing tractor that is used for events.

The youngster, who likes to play football and grow his own fruit and vegetables, loves his weekly visits to the Fife station and is "always thrilled" when he gets a wave from officers.
