A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder after a man's dismembered body was found in southwest London.

The victim, 53-year-old William Algar, was discovered on Friday after officers were called to an address in Nowell Road in Barnes.

His discovery was the culmination of a missing persons search that began more than a month earlier, on 1 December.

A post-mortem examination has shown he died of a stab wound to the chest.

While formal identification is yet to take place, his family has been informed, Scotland Yard said earlier.

The teenage suspect, from Earl's Court, spoke only to confirm his name and address when he appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Mr Algar was "found dismembered", the court was told.
