A young boy has left a handwritten note for police in Manchester, days after officers were seen running towards an armed attacker at a shopping centre.
The child, who signed his note as Adam, thanked officers for "saving our lives and keeping us safe".
He also said he liked police because "when I wave at them they always wave back".
The note was left on the windscreen of a police patrol car in Manchester's city centre on Saturday.
It also includes a doodle of a police officer with equipment including a Taser, baton, pepper spray and handcuffs.
Police are now hoping to get in touch with the young boy so he can visit and try on equipment.
Inspector Jon Middleton wrote on Twitter: "Dear Adam-Hopefully someone will show this to you (you're prob too young to be on twitter!)
"I'd like to say huge thanks from @GMPCityCentre @gmpolice for your lovely card & kind words-it brought a happy tear to my eye & is a great reminder to us of why we do what we do Insp M."
He added: "PS love your picture of a Police Car & Officer & list of equipment. If you'd like to visit us pls ask an adult to e-mail [email protected].
"We'd love to meet & you could sit in a Police car & try some equipment on (sorry we can't let you play with a TASER though) Insp M."
One commenter on Insp Middleton's tweet claims the boy has written a number of notes for police officers.
They said: "He didn't just do this one, he took the time to write them out for numerous officers working across the city over the weekend."
The notes came after three people were stabbed at Manchester's Arndale shopping centre.
Videos shared on social media appeared to show police officers running towards the scene.
The suspect was confronted by two unarmed police community support officers and began chasing them before being apprehended.
A 40-year-old man was detained under the Mental Health Act.
