Boy, six, dies after house fire in Derbyshire

The boy was found with serious injuries and, despite the efforts of firefighters to save him, he died later in hospital.

A six-year-old boy has died after a house fire, police have said.

Emergency services were called to the house in Ilkeston at 10.40pm on Friday.

After firefighters went inside, they found the boy with serious injuries.

They performed CPR on him until paramedics arrived.

He was then taken to Queen's Medical Centre, where he died.

Pictures of the house on Saturday morning showed a first-floor window badly damaged by fire.

A neighbour, Jack Hill, 25, told Derbyshire Live: "I heard screaming from outside the house and went to look.

"It was the young girl that lives there who was screaming, then I saw her mum.

"I ran to the Chinese takeaway and grabbed their fire extinguisher and went into the house.

"I tried to get into the upstairs room but the smoke was too thick.

"Then I saw the young boy that lives there being brought out by the fire brigade."

Derbyshire Police said they are investigating.
