Elderly couple pictured holding hands during car crash rescue in Weston-super-Mare

An elderly couple have been pictured holding hands while on stretchers following a car crash in Weston-super-Mare.
The husband and wife, in their 80s, were trapped when their vehicle went off the road and up an embankment in the seaside town in Somerset on Monday.
Avon fire and rescue service were called to the scene along with police and paramedics at around 1.20pm.
In a tweet, Weston-super-Mare fire station said the vehicle had been "suspended in trees" and described the rescue as a "challenging extrication".
An accompanying picture from the scene showed the couple holding hands as they lay adjacently on stretchers before being transferred to hospital.
Other images show a group of firefighters rescuing the couple from the crash site.
"The two casualties were rescued by hydraulic cutting equipment, ladders and safe working at height equipment," a fire service spokesman said.
"Both were conveyed to hospital by the ambulance service."
Firefighters recovered the silver car shortly after 3.20pm.
