Firefighters have attended a blaze at a high-rise block in Shepherd's Bush, west London.

London Fire Brigade said eight engines and around 60 firefighters were at the scene of the tower block in Queensdale Crescent.

The brigade said a flat on the 12th floor of Stebbing House was on fire, and added that the person who reported it sent live stream videos of the incident to the Brigade's 999 call centre.

The incident was reported at 9.23am and the fire was under control by 10.55am.

London Ambulance Service said paramedics treated "a number of patients" at the scene, adding that one person was taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, however, it is believed to have been started by a male resident charging their electric scooter.

Station Commander David Bracewell said from the scene: "Three people from the affected flat left before the brigade arrived. A number of other residents evacuated the building.

"Firefighters led six residents to safety via an internal staircase. Further residents who were not affected by fire, heat or smoke were advised to remain in their flats."

Hammersmith and Fulham Borough Labour councillor Stephen Cowan told the PA news agency: "What I've been advised is that there was a fire started early in the morning by an electric scooter.

"They were charging an electric scooter in the flat, it caught fire, the individual had the presence of mind to pull the plug on it, and then he threw water on it.

"That caused billowing smoke. Smoke went everywhere. Automatically the fire alarms kicked in."

The building is less than a mile away from Grenfell Tower where 72 people died following a blaze in 2017.
