Former US president George HW Bush has left hospital after treatment for an infection that had spread to his blood.
The 93-year-old had been admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital on 22 April, a day after the funeral of his wife Barbara.
Mrs Bush, 92, died on 17 April at the couple's Houston home.
They had been married for 73 years, making them the longest married presidential couple in US history.
Jim McGrath, a spokesman for the 41st US president, said: "His doctors report he is doing well and is happy to return
home."
Mr McGrath previously said Bush wanted to recover quickly so he could visit his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine.
He has also said that, while in hospital, Mr Bush was more focused on following basketball "than anything that landed him in the hospital".
On Thursday, a tweet on Mr Bush's Twitter account said: "The doctors, nurses and support staff (at the hospital) are so nice, but the second I get the green light I'm outta here."
Mr Bush, who was president from 1989 to 1993, has used a wheelchair and mobility scooter since developing a form of Parkinson's disease.
As well as having been president, he is the father of George W Bush, who was the 43rd person to hold the top job - from 2001 to 2009.
