Huge fire destroys bus on road in Twickenham

Footage showed the bus engulfed by flames and thick black smoke billowing into the air in southwest London.

Five fire engines and about 30 firefighters were called to a bus fire in southwest London on Saturday.

The single-decker was reduced to a blackened shell, but police said all passengers and the driver managed to escape unharmed.

London Fire Brigade said it was called to Richmond Road in Twickenham at 1.18pm on Saturday, but the incident was over by 2.26pm.

Footage showed the bus engulfed by flames and thick black smoke billowing into the air.

Crews from Twickenham, Richmond, Heston and Kingston fire stations were at the scene and the road remained closed on Saturday afternoon.

Paramedics also attended but luckily weren't needed.

A Transport for London spokesperson told Sky News an investigation was under way and confirmed the bus was a diesel, not an electric vehicle.
