Israel-Iran live: Iranian foreign ministry reportedly attacked - as missiles seen over Tel Aviv and Jerusalem

Explosions have been seen over Tel Aviv and Jerusalem as the country faces yet another barrage of missiles from Iran. It comes after explosions were reported in central Tehran, as attacks continue between Iran and Israel.

'This is about self-defence,' Iranian ambassador says

The Iranian ambassador to the UK, Seyed Ali Mousavi is speaking in an exclusive interview on The World With Yalda Hakim.

Speaking on the last three days, he says the "barbaric Israeli regime" is "violating international law" and described Israel's action in recent days as an "act of aggression against the Iranian people".

Questioned on whether Iran has the capability to continue, he says "it is a matter of principle".

"This is about self-defence, there is no doubt about it," he says.

"We are a responsible member state of the UN and we do all activities according to our international obligation.

"Any activities are only in the framework of self-defence."

He says Iran is "going to do its best" to preserve is "territorial integrity".

"With the help of God we are going to materialise endeavours concretely against our enemy - the Israeli regime," he says.

Asked about a report from Reuters which said Donald Trump vetoed Israel's request to kill Ayatollah Khamenei, the ambassador says "Netanyahu should be punished". 

"It is very important that Trump and the US should know their responsibilities and obligations according to the UN charter," he adds.

Iran says 224 people killed since Friday

The Iranian health ministry has just published its latest casualty figures. 

Spokesperson Hossein Kermanpour has said that since Friday a total of 224 people have been killed, including children.

Another 1,277 have been wounded and 522 of them have since been discharged from hospital.

Israel 'will continue operating until threat removed', IDF says

Israel "will continue operating until we feel we have removed this existential threat" from the country, IDF international spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani has told our lead world news presenter Yalda Hakim.

Shoshani said Israel could not comment on future plans but the country had "eliminated all the senior commanders in the Iranian regime".

"We will continue operating until we feel we have removed this existential threat from Israel," he said.

After reports emerged from Reuters that Donald Trump vetoed an Israeli plan in recent days to kill Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Shoshani was questioned on this.

"We don't comment on future operations" he added.

Iranian intelligence chief killed in strikes - report

The head of Iran's intelligence agency and his deputy were killed in Israeli strikes today, the state-owned Iranian news agency Tasnin reports.

The agency says Mohammad Kazemi, the head of the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), led one of the two main intelligence agencies of the country.

Strikes between Iran and Israel have resumed, with neither side showing any signs of backing down.

The two countries have been regional adversaries for decades.

But there are fears the escalating violence will lead to more civilian deaths and territorial destruction.

Israel's El Al cancels all flights

Israel's El Al Airlines has announced that it has suspended all flights until at least 19 June, with additional cancellations to many European cities extending to 23 June, due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.

The Israeli flag carrier had earlier suspended all flights until 17 June, with Israel's airspace still closed.

"Once approvals are received from the relevant security and aviation authorities, we will do everything possible to allow as many Israelis as possible to return home, gradually resume our regular flight schedule and operate rescue flights from destinations near Israel," El Al said.

Israel's National Security Council (NSC) has cautioned against travel to Israel through Egypt and Jordan despite their borders being open.

Iranian foreign ministry attacked - report

Reports are coming through from the state-owned Iranian news agency Tasnin that Iran's foreign ministry in Tehran has been attacked.

Iranian diplomat Saeed Khatibzadeh is quoted as saying that a "number of employees" at the ministry have been wounded.

Fires in northern Israel after strikes

Fires have erupted in Haifa, northern Israel, after strikes in the region.

A spokesperson for Israel's national emergency organisation Magen David Adom (MDA) has said teams are transporting seven patients to hospitals, including a 72-year-old woman.

"Searches are ongoing on scene," the MDA has said.

Missiles seen over Jerusalem and Tel Aviv

Our lead world news presenter Yalda Hakim is in Jerusalem where air raid sirens are blaring as Israel faces yet another barrage of missiles from Iran.

"This is what the people here have been having to deal with over the course of the last few days since Israel launched their attack on the Iranian regime," she says.

"I can see people running to their bunkers and rushing to safety."

Missiles have also been seen over Tel Aviv.
