Israel agrees ceasefire after 'achieving objectives' in Iran

More to bring you now from Israel's statement.

The Israeli government says it agreed to Donald Trump's ceasefire proposal after "achieving the objectives" of its attacks on Iran.

It says the "immediate existential threat" of Iran's nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles has been removed.

In addition, it says Israel's military "severely struck government targets in the heart of Tehran" during the last 24 hours, as well as "eliminating another senior nuclear scientist".

"In addition, the IDF has achieved full air control over Tehran's skies, inflicted severe damage on the military leadership, and destroyed dozens of central Iranian government targets," the statement adds.

Israel confirms agreement to US ceasefire proposal

Israel's government says it has agreed to Donald Trump's ceasefire proposal.

Benjamin Netanyahu's office says Israel will respond "forcefully" to any violations of the ceasefire with Iran.

The statement adds that Israel has achieved its goal of removing Iran's nuclear and ballistic threat and thanks Donald Trump and the US for their support in doing so.

The Israeli leader will deliver a statement later today.

Israeli medics say four people have been killed and at least a dozen more injured after an Iranian missile hit a residential building in Beer Sheba.

Trump 'begged' Tehran for ceasefire, Iranian TV claims

Iranian state media reported news of Donald Trump's ceasefire overnight by claiming it had been "imposed" on Israel following Tehran's "successful" military response to "US aggression".

As a reminder, Iran launched an attack against a US military base in Qatar yesterday in response to America's own strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities a day earlier.

And in an indication as to how Tehran plans to sell the halt in attacks to the Iranian public, state TV claimed Trump requested the ceasefire "in a begging-like manner".

Trump himself had a different version of events. On Truth Social, he said Israel and Iran approached him "almost simultaneously, and said, peace".

At this point, "I knew the time was now" he added.
