Actor James Corden has said that he became "frustrated" while filming The Late Late Show in the US because of the frequent advert breaks.

The 45-year-old - who stepped down from hosting the CBS talk show in April 2023 - said he loved doing it but had "one frustration".

"It was the idea that every six minutes you've got to go to a commercial break," he told The Podcast Show festival in London.

Corden added that a large element of filming in the studio was "trying to plug a product" and he preferred filming popular segments - that often went viral - like Carpool Karaoke which saw him joined by huge celebrity guests including Adele, Sir Paul McCartney and Michelle Obama.

"I found this intimacy in the interviews and the conversations that felt very organic and very safe and felt like people would respond to it," he said.

The Gavin & Stacey writer left The Late Late Show after eight seasons saying he "felt compelled" to return to the UK but would always be "immensely proud" of presenting the US show.

Since leaving the show, the actor and comedian has launched the podcast This Life Of Mine on Sirius XM, which aims to tell celebrities' "never-heard before" stories.

After launching in the US in February, it has so far featured famous faces like Kim Kardashian, David Beckham, Martin Scorsese and Dr Dre.

"If there's a thing I've enjoyed most about doing the show, it's the element of freedom that you've got in a free-form flowing hour-long conversation, and giving that an edit to try and make that the purest version of who a guest is," he said about the podcast.

"That's the thing I think I've enjoyed most about doing it so far."

He said he was hesitant about doing it at first and pushed for it to be an audio-only podcast, adding: "[But] anyone that I mentioned it to, [said] I was insane and that without video it could never travel".

When asked who his dream guest would be, Corden said: "I'd love to do King Charles. I'd be so interested to know what his favourite song is."

The star also announced at the beginning of the month that he and writing partner Ruth Jones have finished the "last ever episode" of the hit sitcom Gavin & Stacey, which will be released on Christmas Day.
