Jose Mourniho says Manchester United are "confident" Sir Alex Ferguson will make a swift recovery following his brain haemorrhage.
Sir Alex, 76, remains in Salford Royal Hospital after having emergency surgery on Saturday.
At United's pre-match press conference, Mourinho did not reveal whether he had been to visit the club's former manager in hospital or if he spoken to him.
"It's private," the current United boss said.
"His family asked for privacy and that's what I'm going to respect."
But Mourinho said the club were "very positive" about Sir Alex's health following his surgery.
Asked if he was happy Sir Alex would make a swift recovery, Mourinho replied: "We are confident."
He also insisted he did not expect to see a negative effect on his team when they play West Ham on Thursday.
"I can only think that if there is any relation it is a positive relation," Mourinho said.
Sir Alex retired from managing United in 2013 after 26 years in charge and remains the most successful manager in British football history.
He won 38 trophies during his time at Old Trafford including 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League crowns, five FA Cups and four League Cups.
Messages of support from the world of football and beyond poured in following news that Sir Alex was in intensive care.
Among the heartfelt messages, Real Madrid and ex-United star Cristiano Ronaldo told Sir Alex to "be strong", while David Beckham urged his former manager to "keep fighting".
