A man has been arrested after images of a fatal crash were shared on Facebook which "caused distress to members of the public".

The 44-year-old is alleged to have posted four images on Facebook, with one of the pictures, breaching the malicious communications act, Derbyshire Police said.

The pictures were posted on the same day as the crash in the county which killed Lizzy Keenan, aged 30.

She was the passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa which hit a wall at about 3.10am at a junction in Chellaston.

The driver, Richard Keenan, 23, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, driving under the influence of alcohol and criminal damage.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Derby Crown Court on 19 September.

A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Police said: "A 44-year-old man has been arrested under the malicious communications act in connection with social media posts during the aftermath of the recent fatal collision in Chellaston.

"The arrest has been made after photographs posted on Facebook on the evening of Monday, August 20 caused distress to members of the public."

The force said the man arrested over the images, who is from Derbyshire, has been released under investigation.

Jayne Sloman told Derbyshire Live she had reported the photos after seeing them online.

She said: "Just seeing those images on Facebook upset me and many other people.

"We were pleading with the poster to take them down.

"They did in the end or Facebook did because we reported the pictures.

"I screen shot the images and sent them to the police.

"I cannot get the images out of my head now. I imagine many others can't also."
