A man has been arrested in Albania on suspicion of murdering a builder on the roof of a building in central London.

The 22-year-old Albanian was arrested in the city of Durres on Thursday after an international extradition request, the Metropolitan Police said.

He remains in custody.

The family of the victim, John Woodward, has been told of the development, police added.

Mr Woodward died after he was injured on the roof of the Presman Mastermelts commercial building in Hatton Garden on 17 April last year.

The 47-year-old had been working there as a builder.

He was initially thought to have fallen but a post-mortem examination found he had died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

A 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with Mr Woodward's death but the case against him was later dropped.
