A 21-year-old man has been shot and injured while queuing in his car at a McDonald's drive-through on the Wirral.
The victim, who had been sat in the front passenger seat, has been taken to hospital with a leg injury.
Merseyside Police said officers were called to the scene at the McDonald's in Welton Road, Bromborough, at 5.30pm, following reports of a shooting.
The force have since launched a manhunt for the suspect - described as an Asian male, around 5ft 8in tall, of medium build with a beard and wearing a black hooded jacket.
He is said to have left the scene in the direction of an Asda supermarket.
A cordon is also in place while CCTV is reviewed, with witness and forensic investigations underway.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, a witness said she heard "three of four shots" and initially thought it was "a joke".
She said: "[The gunman] ran down the path from New Chester Road and straight up to the window of the car. I think it was like three or four shots and then the car sped out of the car park and the lad ran away.
"Staff came out to tell us they were closed but we had to wait on police. I can't believe it - there was loads of people in the queue, everyone seen him."
Detective Inspector Paul Parry said the investigation was still in its early stages and urged anyone who was in the area at the time get in touch.
He added: "I understand the alarm this incident will cause, as it happened in broad daylight in a busy area with a number of people around, but rest assured we are doing all we can to locate the person responsible and patrols will remain in the area to provide reassurance and gather information.
"If you witnessed the incident, or have any CCTV, dashcam footage or information, please let us know, as it could prove vital to the investigation.
"Gun crime will not be tolerated on the streets of Merseyside and we will continue to be relentless in our pursuit of those involved in serious and organised crime."
