A man has died after the school bus he was driving collided with a lorry and a car on the outskirts of Aberdeen.

The vehicles crashed on the South Deeside Road, close to the Maryculter Bridge, at 7.45am.

Thirteen children from Lathallan School in Johnshaven were on the bus.

Richard Toley, headteacher at Lathallan School, told Northsound News: "These pupils are safe and accounted for.

"No pupils have been seriously injured and pupils are either with parents or members of staff now."

The male drivers of the other vehicles - a red Audi A4 and white DAF lorry - were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with non-life threatening injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesman said the road would remain closed for the time being between Leggart Terrace and Netherley Road, plus Milltimber Brae.
