A passenger has been injured after jumping out of a taxiing plane at Los Angeles International Airport.

The aircraft had just started to pull away from the gate on Friday night when the man unsuccessfully tried to get into the cockpit, then opened the service door and jumped down the emergency chute onto the concrete below.

He was left with injuries that were not life-threatening and taken into custody, authorities said.

He was later taken to hospital.
