New photographs of Prince George beaming in an England football shirt have been released to celebrate his sixth birthday.

The pictures, taken by his mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, show the future king laughing as he lies in the garden of their home in Kensington Palace - and grinning gleefully at the camera.

Another snap, taken during a family holiday, shows Prince George wearing a green polo shirt and striped shorts.

Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge was born in the private Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, at 4.24pm on July 22 2013, weighing 8lbs 6oz.

He was the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first child - and has since become an older brother to Charlotte and Louis.

Kate and William have taken to releasing new pictures of their children on their birthdays.

George is a fledgling tennis player and has recently had a visit from Wimbledon runner-up Roger Federer, who said "cute" George had "good technique".

Charlotte will join George at the private school in the autumn, where the most important rule is "to be kind".

Fees for the school are £19,287, whilst Charlotte will get a slight discount for being a second child, at £18,915.

The new school year will bring new changes for the six-year-old, with Year 2 children responsible for recording their homework to increase their independence.

Homework of 10 minutes' reading every night will be set, and a new spelling rule will be sent home every week at the school.
