Rapper Nelly is no longer being investigated by police over a sexual assault claim by a fan.聽

The US star allegedly assaulted the unnamed woman while he was on tour in the UK, following a gig at Cliffs Pavilion in Southend, Essex.

Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr, was said to have invited the woman to his dressing room after the show and sexually assaulted her.

Essex Police began an investigation but has since told the rapper he will not face further action.

In a statement, it said: "We received a report of a sexual assault at an address in Station Road, Westcliff, on 5 December 2017.

"We carried out an investigation and voluntarily interviewed a 44-year-old man in January 2019.

"He has subsequently been told he faces no further action."

The incident was included in a lawsuit in the US, which centred on a claim from another woman - Monique Green - who alleged that Nelly raped her.

However, Ms Green chose not to testify, so the criminal case was dropped.

Nelly denied the allegations and his lawyer said the claims were "deceitful" and "motivated by money".

The rapper has since filed a counter-suit, which was settled in September.

The UK claimant is reported to have filed a federal lawsuit against the rapper in the US, which begins in November.

TMZ reports the fan's lawyer told Essex Police they would no longer participate in their investigation and instead focus on the federal lawsuit.
