Police said they carried out a "number of controlled explosions" while investigating a vehicle in central London.
Westminster Police said road closures were put in place around Regent Street and New Burlington Street.
The force carried out the explosions as a "precautionary measure".
The incident was later stood down.
Police said the vehicle they had been investigating was found to not be suspicious.
