A second water main has burst following repairs to a pipe that left around 16,000 customers without supplies.

Scottish Water was alerted to a damaged 12in main in the Touch area of Stirling at around 5pm on Sunday.

The firm, which provides water and sewerage services across Scotland, said teams worked through the night and into the early hours of Monday morning to repair the third-party damage and restore supplies to most of those affected.

While returning the network to normal, a second burst occurred around 20-30m from the location of the original problem.

Network alterations have taken place to restore and maintain water supplies to "most customers", according to the company.

However, disruption continues to affect residents in the city centre, Cultenhove and St Ninians areas.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: "We apologise to all customers affected for the interruption to their service and thank them for their patience and understanding whilst we work to resolve the problem."
