After a difficult week of Middle East diplomacy and dressing down Donald Trump, the Prime Minister might hope to relax in front of Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night.

On her trip to the Middle East, Theresa May revealed to journalists she likes to cheer on her constituent Debbie McGee during the BBC show.

The Prime Minister was actually asked what she thought of Stanley Johnson, the father of her Foreign Secretary, as 'Jungle Prime Minister' in ITV's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here.

Mrs May said she hadn't found time to watch the programme, but went on to reveal she does have one guilty pleasure.

"I have to confess that with one or two other things on my mind, I haven't actually been watching I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here," she said.

"What I have been watching, when I can, is cheering on my constituent Debbie McGee in Strictly Come Dancing.

"She's doing very well."

PM slams 'hateful' Trump retweets

Always ready to ask the questions the public want to know, Sky News pressed the Prime Minister on this revelation.

Did she think former magician's assistant McGee would be walking off with the glitter ball trophy?

"She's very good," replied Mrs May, but then added: "Alexandra Burke is also very good.

"But one or two of the men seem to be quite dark horses, so it's a good quality competition this year."

Mrs May knows all about dark horses and underdogs catching up from behind, following Jeremy Corbyn's shock result at June's election.

But, after the week she's had, it might be hard to imagine her kicking up her heels for some Saturday night TV.

That said, her response on Thursday to Mr Trump's tweets had the air of Hugh Grant's Prime Minister on the Richard Curtis film Love Actually, when he rebukes the US President to applause from the room.

Perhaps then, like Grant, Mrs May will kick off her shoes and dance down the stairs of Number 10, to the tune of The Weather Girls' It's Raining Men.

Perhaps not. But McGee could pull it off.
