Woman charged with 'wasting police time' after Nairn sex assault and robbery claim

A 39-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with wasting police time and will appear at Inverness Sheriff Court at a later date.

A woman has been charged in connection with wasting police time following an investigation into a report of a sex assault and robbery.

Detectives launched a probe into claims a woman was attacked on a riverside footpath between Church Road and Jubilee Bridge in Nairn on 17 February.

At the time, Police Scotland reported the woman was sexually assaulted by a man while a woman stole her purse.

However, the force has since completed a "comprehensive investigation" and concluded "no sexual crime or robbery has occurred".

Detective Chief Inspector Ross Hamill said: "I would like to thank the public for coming forward following the appeals for information.
