A woman is under investigation over the murder of a 12-year-old French girl whose body was found in a plastic case in Paris, prosecutors have said.
French prosecutors said the 24-year-old suspect is being investigated for the murder of a minor under the age of 15, the rape of a minor and acts of torture and barbarity.
Lola Daviet disappeared on Friday afternoon and was reported missing by her mother.
In an online appeal, Delphine Daviet posted a picture of her daughter, saying she was wearing white jeans, a white hoodie and a grey backpack.
French prosecutors said her body was found by a man later that day in a plastic case near where she lived and that a post-mortem examination this weekend showed that she died of asphyxiation.
Prosecutors added that large cuts were found on Lola's neck and back and the numbers '0' and '1' appeared in red under each foot.
Lola’s father, who takes care of the apartment building where the girl lived, allegedly saw the suspect and his daughter enter the hall of their building at around 3.15pm on CCTV footage, French prosecutors said.
The woman, who prosecutors say lived in the same building, was allegedly then seen on CCTV again leaving the building at around 5pm with "heavy luggage".
An investigation was launched and police watched the CCTV, searched the neighbourhood and conducted several interviews.
Prosecutors said the suspect was arrested in the suburb of Bois-Colombes overnight between Friday and Saturday.
They added that the sister of the suspect, aged 26, and four men were arrested overnight between Friday and Saturday. The 26-year-old woman and three of the men were released the following day.
Prosecutors said one of the men arrested, a 43-year-old, admitted to allegedly helping the suspect transport her luggage from Paris to his house and that the suspect stayed at his property for two hours before returning back to the capital.
The prosecution says the 24-year-old suspect has given varying statements about the case.
Flowers have been laid outside the building where Lola lived, alongside notes and candles.
The investigation continues.
