Emergency services are searching the River Thames for a teenage boy who was last seen struggling in the water just hours after the body of a woman was found in the river two miles away.
Thames Valley Police said on Twitter that officers were at the river between Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, and Cookham, Berkshire, on Monday, after they received a report of concern for the boy's welfare.
The force received a report at 3pm that a teenage boy had entered the water, got into difficulty, and was not seen to leave the water, prompting a search by emergency services.
There will be a police presence in the area while the search takes place.
Earlier on Monday, the same force were called to Boulters Lock, at the Thames in Maidenhead, following a report of a woman's body being found in the river at approximately 7.15am.
Thames Valley Police have said they are working to identify a next of kin as well as establish the cause of death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.
Formal identification is yet to take place.
Both Boulters Lock and Cookham Lock have been closed and police are asking that members of the public avoid the area.
Elsewhere, a teenager has been arrested after a two-year-old boy was pulled unresponsive from a lake at a nature reserve in Hampshire.
The young child is in a critical condition in hospital after being pulled from the water, and the 18-year-old man who was arrested is known to the boy.
The incidents came on what was the UK's hottest day of the year so far.
