Elgin Marbles 'belong in British Museum', says Tory frontbencher Mel Stride
The statues came from the 2,500-year-old Parthenon and have been displayed at the museum, in central London, for more than 200 years, after being removed by Lord Elgin in the early 19th century, when he was British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire.
